How Might the Future Look Like?

While the transhumanist movement might seem small now, I believe it will grow in the coming years.

As we go about our daily lives we often think of ways in which it might improve. What if I didn't need keys to unlock my door, run for longer periods of time, see further distances, memorize or even learn information much quicker and more efficiently. It's doubtful that a single person hasn't thought of this at least once in their life.

Perhaps the transhumanist movement seems a bit dramatic today, with people placing microchips underneath their skin, using cryo chambers, attempting mind uploading. But there are other socially acceptable innovations that align with the movement as well. Some examples include, the cochlear implant, prosthesis or even robotic prosthesis, and CRISPR.

However these acceptable innovations might look different in the future due to the increasing number of people wanting to use those inventions to voluntarily change their bodies. Cochlear implants might lead to the invention of a device that enhances hearing peoples' to a previously unattainable hearing level by the human body. Prosthesis might change to adapt to an able bodied human to enhance endurance and performance throughout their daily life or in combat. CRISPR, despite being applauded for what may possibly be the cure for cancer, might also lead to the creation of designer babies. Its current adaptation is being used to find the cure for incurable diseases by changing the genecode of a cell. While it may finally cure cancer in the coming years, might as be used by others who want to have control over their offspring by editing their genetic code to their desired tastes.

Currently the desires held by the community are the ability to augment their bodies with tech, the ability to transfer information or thoughts, ability to customize the body from its initial creation, and the ability to prolong or even become immortal.

The transhumanist movement is not stopping, and it will only gain popularity which will lead to polarization between those who prefer to not alter their biological body, and those who see the potential of enhancing their bodies to prolong or facilitate their lives.
